Be brave, be bold, be beautiful

We are all explorers. Even if we don’t know it. We want to delve deeply into our heart’s desire, live big, bold, beautiful lives. We want to taste, touch, feel as much of the world as we can. We want it all. So what’s stopping us?

This blog is about encouraging you to be an explorer of your own life. To ask yourself the tough questions: Am I happy? What’s holding me back? Is there something more I want out of this life? Do I dare ask for more?

I’m here to tell you, hell, yes!! Want more, expect more, and most definitely ask for more. It’s YOUR life. Only you can change it. So do. Change the things that aren’t working. Be brave enough to face the truth. Be bold enough to take the steps to bring about change; to say ‘Yes, I can,’ to the naysayers.

If you’re like me and you are in the middle years of your life – or ‘middle aged’ as our demographic is so inadequately described – then you may think time is running out. That you’re too old to make a life change; too set in your ways to challenge the status quo. But you’re wrong. Time is NOT running out. The rest of your life is a big open road and you get to draw the map.

That’s what I’m doing. I took a leap and changed course at the mid way point in my life. My landing pad may be one of the most beautiful countries in the world to visit but it has its challenges as a place to live. Italy is a dream for many. I can’t tell you how many times I hear, ‘Wow, you live in Italy? You’re so lucky. That’s incredible.’ And it is. Most of the time.

I will share many of the amazing things about living la dolce vita but I will also share some of the not-so-great: the frustrating bureaucracy, the challenges of learning a new language; life as a stranger in a foreign land; the good and bad of ex-pat communities and the tug-on-your-heart pangs when you are missing yet another family event ‘back home’.

This blog isn’t a ‘how-to’ on changing your life. I’m not an expert on anything. Nor do I claim to be when sharing information with you. I only do my best to be informed and to share with you what I know and what I’ve learned along the way. I hope to encourage, to inspire and to help you find your own dolce vita.

Life does get sweeter with age. So start exploring!
